we also produced a audio document in which Becky spoke about the target audience of our film and also the unique selling point of the picture.

USP and Target Audience Script

Our target audience will be interested in current affairs and psychological events that occur in real life. Audiences would view these events across the news and social media which are therefore platforms we can also use to promote our film.

We think that both males and females will be interested in watching our film, as males conventionally enjoy watching action packed films featuring weapons and violence. But females will also be able to relate as it is based on realism as it’s not just a male sport.

Middles class people would be an expected group who would enjoy our film as they’re likely to use their disposable income to purchase cinema tickets. They can also relate to the key message portrayed in the film as they can potentially be in this situation. They are also likely to be a part of a large family and would sympathies with the venerable children in the school.

Young adults will be our target audience as they’re most likely to enjoy the realism and suspension of the film. Young adults are also most likely to visit the cinema in the evening which is a typical viewing time for thrillers as it adds to the overall terrifying experience.

White British people would be most attracted as they can identify with the main protagonist more as he is also of a white background. However students and young adults won’t have the income so the cinema is a cheap activity for them to anticipate for the evening and weekends. They will also enjoy the built up suspension in the film more.

Planning - Costumes

for the costume we decided to have the shooter wear all black this is because the colour connotes darkness and our character is carrying out very dark events in the picture. we used a balaclava as it makes the shooter look more scary and covers the identity of the shooter.

I also chose the victim in the trailer to wear white as white connotes innocence, and my film is a demonstration of innocence being ruined.

I used a gun prop to show the danger and that murder will take place.

Planning - Casting changes

Originally we were using an outside party as the actor within our trailer but we encountered multiple issues with this. it was a struggle to get the actor in to film due to clashing schedules and deadlines, so alternatively I filled in as the actor. This was less optimal with me having less acting experience then Fraser.

Planning - A2 FILM PITCH

A2 Film Pitch
This is the powerpoint myself and my team created to plan for our film.

Planning - storyboard

Planning - risk assessment

gun - having a gun could potentially cause a panic within the school if it was seen, this is quite a high risk. to control this we have filmed all shots with the gun in a secure place.

Tables and chairs - with tables and chairs being present in some shots there is potential for actors to trip and fall, this is not a very high risk as long as they look where they are going they should be fine.

wires - with the use of a stage there is a lot of unconcealed wires that actors and cameramen could trip over, to prevent this we have taped wires to the ground and any other unnecessary wires will be removed from the set.

stage - with the use of a stage there is potential to fall off the stage, this is not a very high risk thing and to combat it we had made clear markings where the edge is and filmed as fasr back on the stage as possible.

Planning- settings/ locations

These are some stills of locations I have found that are potential locations for within the trailer.

Planning - USP and Target Audience

Research - conventions of a psychological thriller

a psychological thriller is a subgenre which incorporates both elements of Horror and Thrillers with a psychological element within the narrative of the story. There are many Conventions of a psychological thriller such as:

  • The exploration of reality - here we have directors playing with what is real and what isn't.
  • Perception - a persons own interpretation of the world and how they view it through their eyes.
  • Mind -  The mental state of the person, location, reality, memory, intelligence and emotion.
  • existence/purpose - an aim or goal of which a human strives for.
  • Identity - the identity of ones self characters are often compromised or confused and they're trying to fight themselves
  • Death - characters either fear or are fascinated by death

Research - analysis of other trailers

for my research into psychological thrillers i have composed a 9 frame analysis of a similar films trailer, the film trailer I have chosen to analyse is the Elephant trailer as this also tackles the school shooting theme.
this is one of the posters that they have chosen, it has a great contrast from this and the contents of the film. upon first glance at this poster you may see it as a romance film. They have purposefully left the image open and uncovered by little text as to direct the viewers attention to the image as it grabs your attention.
this title screen is to show who may view the trailer and also which classification board has approved it, this is essential in each Trailer as viewer discretion is a priority.

this is the first shot within the school, this is used to establish the setting and also the characters included within the film

This is another shot which is used to establish characters and location for the film, this longshot of the corridor is used frequently and is a key selling point for the film and is highly associated with the director.
A close up shot used to establish another key character to the films plot and narrative.
Reviews are included as a drawing point to make audiences want to come and see it as it has won awards and is a critically acclaimed picture.

this shot shows the two killers geared up and reveals the plot to the film further, at this point the pace of the trailer increases as to show the intensity of the film increasing and danger associated with these two.

Research - Psychological thriller poster

This is the poster for Orphan, they have used a close up with dim lighting, they have applied a gradient to the bottom of the poster to add a darkness element, the costume choice is good as school girl outfits are used frequently in thrillers as they have a creepy unnerving stigma attached to them. The use of a spot light as the only light source also makes the image more scary and inflicts fear into the viewer.  The use of a unique font is also good as it looks written in chalk which ties in well with the schoolgirl look and works as good synergy throughout the poster.

Research - Poster analysis

Here they have used a black background which connotes darkness and evil typical conventions of the Psychological Thriller Genre. They have used an enlarged image of Leonardos DiCaprios face ad the main focus image by fading it in to the background by the use of lighting of the match. This creates a spooky feel when looking at the poster as it looks like he is emerging from the darkness. They have placed the title central and made it the largest text on the poster, this is a typical convention of film posters. By placing an image of an island in the foreground of the poster it shows the location of which it is set well and makes DiCaprio look like he is exploring the darkness on the island

Research - film name drafts

we sat down as a group and made a mind map with all our options. we came to the conclusion that after weighing our options up, The Final Bell was the best as it works well with the school setting and also that a final bell can also be a metaphor for death.
